Inspiration
In an era of clickbait and 24-hour noise, staying informed has become a chore. I wanted to build a platform that doesn't just aggregate news but understands it. The goal for Axion News was to create a "signal-to-noise" filter that provides objective, concise, and real-time updates without the manual overhead of traditional curation.
What it does
Axion News is an AI-powered news aggregator that transforms how we consume information. It automatically scrapes global news and uses the Gemini API to generate objective, high-quality summaries, ensuring users get the "signal" without the "noise.".
How we built it
The platform is built on the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js). We integrated the Gemini API to perform deep semantic analysis of articles, enabling features like automated summarization and intelligent categorization.
Challenges we ran into
One of the primary challenges was orchestrating real-time data flow from various news sources into the AI processing pipeline while maintaining site performance. We had to optimize our scrapers and API call structures to handle high volumes of data efficiently.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud of achieving AdSense approval for the platform, validating the quality of our AI-curated content. Successfully deploying a live, functional aggregator at axionnews.live that provides real value to users is a major milestone for us.
What we learned
Building this project deepened our understanding of autonomous AI agents and their role in content curation. We learned how to balance AI automation with editorial integrity and refined our skills in full-stack development and prompt engineering.
What's next for Axion News
We plan to introduce personalized news feeds based on user interests and expand our AI's capabilities to include multi-language support and sentiment-based news filtering.
