Inspiration

As students, we spend long hours working on our computers, with many of us suffering from eye strain, poor posture, and mental fatigue. We push through our work until our bodies force us to stop — usually with pain, burnout, or a frustrating loss of focus.

Axial was inspired by the idea that technology should notice when we're struggling and support our cognitive wellness, not wait for us to crash.

What it does

Axial is a real-time cognitive wellness companion that uses your webcam to detect subtle signs of fatigue before you feel them. It detects blink rate, an early indicator of eye strain and cognitive load, and head posture, a signal of physical fatigue that can also have cognitive impact.

When the system detects strain, distraction, or posture collapse, it provides gentle, evidence-based micro-interventions like: “Look 20ft away for 20 seconds," “Posture check," and “Break recommended — your focus cycle is complete.”

Axial turns invisible decline into supportive, natural interaction, helping users stay energized, focused, and pain-free.

Why Our Project Matters

Our project matters because we're solving a problem everyone experiences but nobody can see. Most people don't notice burnout until they already suffer from a headache, poor posture, or mental fog. However, computers can see signs before we catch them. Axial notices these early signs and intervenes to sustain healthy digital usage. Your computer listens to you, and adapts to your behavior to ensure your cognitive and physical state is maintained well.
