The Story Behind Awwly

We all have people we love. A partner, a best friend, a parent, or someone who simply made our day a little better.

But sometimes saying "I love you", "I miss you", "Thank you", or "I'm thinking about you" doesn't feel like enough.

That simple idea inspired Awwly.

We wanted to create something that makes expressing feelings feel more personal and memorable than sending another ordinary text message.

Awwly lets people turn their words and feelings into beautiful digital cards and moments that they can personalize and share with someone special.

What Inspired Us

The inspiration came from a very simple observation:

Small messages can carry very big feelings.

Digital communication has become incredibly convenient, but it can also feel disposable. We wanted to bring back a little of the emotional feeling of giving someone a thoughtful card — while keeping it as easy as sending a message.

Instead of asking users to design something from scratch, Awwly focuses on making the experience feel effortless:

Choose a moment → add your words → personalize it → share the feeling.

How We Built It

Awwly was built as a mobile-first experience with a strong focus on visual design, smooth interactions, and emotional storytelling.

We built the app with Flutter and designed the experience around reusable card and moment components so that new experiences can be added without rebuilding the entire application.

We also integrated RevenueCat to handle subscriptions and in-app purchases, allowing us to experiment with monetization while keeping the purchasing experience simple and reliable.

The biggest design challenge was finding the balance between beautiful visuals and usability. Every animation, card, transition, and interaction needed to feel special without getting in the way of the message itself.

The Challenges

The hardest part wasn't simply building another card creator.

It was answering:

How do we make a digital message feel emotional?

We experimented with layouts, typography, gradients, animations, illustrations, card compositions, and transitions to make the experience feel closer to receiving a thoughtful physical gift.

Another challenge was keeping the creation process simple. A powerful editor can easily become overwhelming, so we deliberately focused on a guided experience where users can create something beautiful without needing design skills.

We also had to think carefully about performance. Since Awwly is highly visual, we optimized the experience so that beautiful animations and imagery don't make the app feel slow or complicated.

What We Learned

Building Awwly taught us that emotional products don't necessarily need complicated functionality.

Sometimes the most important feature is how something makes someone feel.

We learned to pay much more attention to the tiny details — timing of animations, spacing, typography, transitions, visual hierarchy, and even how a card is revealed to the recipient.

We also learned that building the product is only half of the journey. Launching on the App Store, presenting the product clearly, getting people to discover it, and learning from real users are equally important parts of building a product.

What's Next

Awwly is just the beginning.

We want to continue expanding the library of moments and experiences while making personalization deeper and sharing more delightful.

Our goal is simple:

Make it easier for people to turn feelings into moments worth remembering.

Because sometimes a small message can mean everything.
