What Inspired You

The inspiration for FuelWise came from a common frustration faced by millions of drivers—overspending on fuel during long trips. We imagined families, commuters, and road-trippers trying to stick to a budget but losing money due to unpredictable gas prices. Our goal was to create a tool that combines convenience with savings, turning road trips into stress-free and economical journeys.

What You Learned

Through this project, we learned how to effectively utilize AWS tools to build scalable and innovative solutions. We also deepened our understanding of integrating external APIs, like Google Maps, and applying AI-driven insights for real-world applications. Collaborating as a team under a tight deadline taught us lessons about project management, adaptability, and resilience.

What It Does

FuelWise is a smart trip planner that recommends the most economical and convenient gas stations along a user’s route. By analyzing real-time gas prices, route details, and fuel efficiency, it provides drivers with optimized gas stop recommendations, saving them money and time.

How We Built It

  1. Backend: We used AWS tools to host the backend logic and integrated the Google Maps API to fetch route and location data.
  2. AI Insights: We built a model-free reinforcement learning algorithm from the ground up to strategize fuel consumption and optimize gas station recommendations with great detail.
  3. Frontend: A clean, user-friendly web application was designed using HTML, ensuring seamless interaction with real-time route suggestions.

Challenges We Ran Into

  • API Integration: Combining Google Maps API with our backend posed challenges in syncing real-time data efficiently.
  • AWS Learning Curve: Learning and implementing AWS tools quickly was initially overwhelming but rewarding, and showed great promises in scalability.
  • Team Coordination: Managing tasks and aligning ideas while working under tight deadlines required constant communication and adaptability.
  • Real-Time Updates: Ensuring the recommendations updated dynamically without delays was a technical hurdle we overcame through iterative testing.

What's Next for AWS Hackathon

  • Mobile App: Expand FuelWise into a mobile application for easier accessibility.
  • Alternative fuel integration: Expand the functionality to alternative fuel options, such as hydrogen, E85, and renewable natural gas.
  • Advanced AI Models: Improve the recommendation engine with more detailed machine learning algorithms, taking into account weather, events nearby, and rush hour directions.
  • Global Expansion: Tailor FuelWise for international markets by integrating localized fuel price data.
