Inspiration
Do you ever wish that there were more than 24 hours in a day? We do and that is what inspired us to create AwesomeTravel. Our app allows you to squeeze a little bit of work out into your daily commute and to avoid particularly crowded sections of your journey by public transport.
What it does
The AwesomeTravel app is an optimal solution for convenient transportation, which combines public transportation with physical exercise. It is similar to a normal public transportation scheduling app. However, it also allows the user to swap the mode of transportation for one or more legs of their journey. The app previews the time difference which results from exchanging a bus, train or tram segment by walking or biking. The latter option has become much more attractive in recent times, due to the increasing availability shared bikes.
How we built it
We built our app at HackZurich in a team of four using Android Studio.
Challenges we ran into
Getting familiar with the different APIs, sleep deprivation…
Accomplishments that we're proud of
In less than two full days we created a prototype which showcases the core idea of AwesomeTravel.
What we learned
Focusing on getting a minimum viable product.
What's next for AwesomeTravel
Our future vision for AwesomeTravel is to capitalize on shortcuts that can only be taken by foot or bike. Such shortcuts will allow the users to save time and to avoid heavily crowded public transportation hubs.
