Inspiration
Many kids who struggle with mental health such as trauma are often affected later in life. There are known statistics that show that kids who deal with untreated mental health issues are more likely to have not only mental but physical illnesses. We were inspired to help young children to avoid the later reprecussions of avoiding help and treatment. We also wanted to help destigmatize things such as reaching out and speaking about one's own mental health.
What it does
Our app brings animals and a fun game to help educate and offer support for children. There are links to activities and support systems all in one place so kids can avoid going on any sketchy websites putting them in danger. We also have an easy access to hotlines all in one place.
How we built it
We used Code.Org to design the base of our app and then used javascript to code the app itself.
Challenges we ran into
As we are beginner coders, we ran into a couple of challenges when coding. Things such as trying to get our if statements to properly work and fixing any last minute bugs were our most prominent challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our biggest accomplishment is probably being able to create everything that we had brainstormed to life.
What we learned
We learned that rushing and panicking will not get us anywhere and slowing down and thinking together is much more efficient.
What's next for Awesome Amazing Helpfulness
As our app was such a success we feel even more motivated to create more to help others and support those who do not have enough.
