💡 Inspiration

In a tech-driven world that constantly demands our attention inward—screens, noise-cancelling headphones, notifications—the physical world around us never stops moving. We cross streets while looking at our phones. We walk alone at night purposefully removing background noise, blasting our ears with music. We are prone to a weakened sense of spatial awareness, leaving us vulnerable to external dangers.

We built Awear: an ecosystem of wearable technology that magnifies your spatial awareness in a world that never stops demanding your attention. With Awear, you can stay present in the world, without leaving yours. It’s an extension of your nervous system. It's the sixth sense, engineered.

⚡️ What it does

Our product ecosystem includes contact lenses and glasses, a bracelet, and a companion mobile application.

The Awear contact lenses and glasses rely on AR technology. It lives in your peripheral vision, and is invisible until it needs to be seen. It's your normal field of view until the moment a threat is detected. A subtle directional cue in the form of a notification appears exactly where you need it, and disappears just as quickly.

The Awear bracelet communicates physically. Haptic pulses alert you to nearby threats, directional tugs guide you to safety, and vibrations tell you how urgently in danger you are. Designed first for deaf users, seamless for everyone to use.

The companion app includes key features such as a weekly awareness score, proximity field map showing the safety of your area, and natural awareness training that encourages users to build their own instincts.

🔨 How we built it

We used Figma Make to create our mobile application prototypes and Figma slides for our presentation. We used CapCut and Jitter to edit our demo video.

🌟 Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team of designers, we're proud that we were able to work well with one another and focus more on the process outside of pure design: ideating and presenting our ideas well.

📝 What we learned

We learned how to use Figma Make and designing with AI allowed us focus upon the core functionality, big idea, and what is truly important for users within a design.

💫 What's next for Awear

We'd expand our threat detection research in all directions to cover more real-world scenarios. What's more, we imagine that Awear can further expand in spatial intelligence to learn the users' behaviors, habits, and environments. Awear's accuracy with notifying users for threats would improve and sharpen with every use.
