## Inspiration - the main purpose was to build the " Honest gym bro " ... was looking for a fitness app for days , the current apps .. promised features in metadata and charged upfront as hard paywall , that's fine , but they were predatory , didn't even fulfil what they promised and all were using churn and burn steps on the cost of their own users , who were pouring their anger in reviews , saw google trends, meta ads library , viral ads library , compared apps by apps on sensor tower , compared my biggest competitor , mined 500 + reviews which told exactly what their users wanted , so did research on both winning and failure models and built the app that users wanted , they were ready to pay , they just wanted the app to actually work . This is my third shipped app. The first two taught me how Apple subscriptions actually work. This one is the cleanest launch I’ve done.
What it does - Awaken: Level Up Your Body - 1) asks users about their current physical metrics , current physique , sleep , workout baseline , current physique status , lets users choose their dream physique via a 3rd range of archetype , lets user choose between home or gym , home users can do workouts and make physique in home , same for gym , instrument changes , workout doesn't. 2) Let's user take their physique scan ( optional ) which give them their estimated body fat , muscle , and physique ranking ( think of cal ai but for physiques ) and sets a baseline for their current physique , then build a workout plan around their current physique , hyper personalised workouts for each user . users do and log workouts they did everyday . rest days don't nuke streaks which was a problem in other apps . personally curated exercise library for both home and gym workouts , showing muscle gruops targeted by each workout they do . gamification include streaks , XP's , badge system( 30 badges with conditions ) from Bronze to Osmium tiers , leaderboards , sharable cards for sharing workouts , profile , every 15 days , user does another scan which is comapared by their previous scan and report is made , Users "Ascend" every 7 days as their weekly execution report is seen by AI which in turn either increases their load or decreases it as they performed for the upcoming week ( progressive load ) .
In Short : Awaken is a gamified AI fitness app (Flutter, dark system-fantasy UI).
- Scan your physique and get a ranked report
- Get a personalized plan
- Log workouts, earn XP, climb ranks, keep streaks
- Premium (weekly / monthly / annual) through RevenueCat.
How we built it - tool stack was VS code , Cursor , Supabase free tier , Open AI API for physique scanning , workout generation and hyper personalisation ( + other user functionality ) ... Since I am a solo dev , so all work was done by me ofc from a-z . Solo. Flutter for iOS (and Android). RevenueCat for subscriptions. Supabase for backend. I don’t own an iPhone so — I build on a MacBook, test in the Simulator, and ship with a distribution profile.
Challenges we ran into - the few main challenges were designing the user onboarding funnel - from psychological onboarding - user commitment - top flow state - hard paywall , that part is where the loop lives . and then curating the muscle and workout library for each muscle , though that was not a big problem as i am a gymrat for like 3 yrs now so i know the app and the workouts ( plus all info a gymbro knows ) down to the soul , so founder market's fit helped there . training the physique scanner properly with instructions took a bit effort . last but the most hard part - utilising Anime powered posters in the app and rendering that in most of the pages from onboarding to the and so it looks lively enough and has that anime soul.. that took like less than a quarter of total time . overall it was worth the grind !!! iOS signing with no physical iPhone. Automatic signing wants a registered device. I used a manual App Store distribution cert + profile so I could archive and upload.
- First-time subscriptions have to ride with version 1.0. If they aren’t in the same App Review submission, Apple reviews the app without Premium. I submitted all 5 items together: Weekly, Monthly, Annual, the Awaken Premium group, and iOS 1.0 (build 8).
- iPad 13-inch screenshots. The app is designed for iPhone. I adapted the existing marketing posters to 2064×2752 without stretching the UI.
Accomplishments that we're( I'm ) proud of -
- Shipped a complete 1.0 as a solo builder: physique scan, ranked report, personalized plan, workout log, XP, ranks, streaks, and a 7-day clock.
- Wired real money the right way: RevenueCat + three auto-renewable products (weekly, monthly, annual) in one subscription group, submitted with iOS 1.0 so Premium isn’t missing from App Review.
- Got the first-time IAP submission clean on the third app. Five items, one draft: Weekly, Monthly, Annual, Awaken Premium, and iOS 1.0 (build 8).
- Archived and uploaded to App Store Connect without a physical iPhone — MacBook + Simulator + a distribution profile.
- Hit the Shipaton window early: binary in review on 12 Sep 2026, deadline 30 Sep. ,and managed to navigate google cloud ... so much over there ... and the tech stuff in app store connect ..
What we learned - the main thing , and the most important thing that i learnt - the success of app developments , shipping and scaling them ,is definitely not luck , its a SYSTEM . since ai revolution , code is 20 % of the effort and distro is 80 % , if all these factors from distro - influencer marketing , right hooks , paid ads on scale , right product , founder market fit , right execution , optimising ASO to the max , right user onboarding psychological flow , hard paywall , and then delivering the product i promised for , retention hooks , is what makes a product scale , and a lot more like a/s b testing , its not just vibe coding , its a whole lot of web , a web of systems . ..
What's next for Awaken: Level Up Your Body - for next versions - better improvised muscle and workout maps , refining core features , proof of verification system for logging workouts so users don't cheat which would be available in photos and voice modes . friend and gym bro circles for comms. and socials ( minimal , only focus on core functionality rather than an all in one app ) , adventure and samurai mode for daily new quest for workouts to test endurance , mobility , strength , with workouts given by app . etc etc . will incorporate A/B tests soon.
