Inspiration
I built Avva after using a couple of journaling apps and not finding the app that worked for me. Most apps felt like a blank box to just dump thoughts into. I wanted something interactive that nudged growth, exposed thinking patterns and suggested small next steps. As someone who cares about mental health, I just set out to build the journaling experience I was looking for that reduces overwhelm and is fun to use.
What it does
Avva turns quick thoughts into actionable items. You can jot a few lines, record videos or voice notes and Avva turns them into daily insights and tiny daily and weekly action items. It also offers cycle‑aware support for those who opt in. Weekly and monthly, you also get a personal audio episode summarizing your weekly and month entries and suggest areas to focus on next.
Challenges I ran into
The App Store feedback loop was not pleasant, it meant revising so many flows and changing many aspect of the app so I was having to constantly make changes some which changed the way I wanted the app to work.
What I learned
I had to educate myself on menstrual cycles to design cycle‑aware support that’s timely, optional, and useful for anyone that opted in. Improving accuracy for people who have menstrual cycle is key to them understanding many patterns in their emotions.
