Inspiration

The inspiration for Avoguido came from the simplicity of any messenger. I wanted to combine this familiar way of communication with the power of AI to track meals, calculate calories, macros, and provide nutritional guidance. The main idea is to present this app as a buddy, your best friend who helps you become a better version of yourself by giving personalized advice on your food choices.

What it does

Avoguido functions like a chat-based food companion. Users can simply message or send a photo of their meal, and the app instantly calculates calories and macros. It offers personalized insights and guidance, making healthy eating effortless and fun. By using a familiar chat interface, Avoguido feels like talking to a friend who’s always ready to help you with your nutrition goals.

How we built it

The app is built with React Native for the front end and Elysia framework on the server side. For handling subscriptions, we integrated RevenueCat. This combination allowed us to create a seamless user experience with efficient backend performance and reliable subscription management.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was that I did everything alone—from coding, design, testing, and copywriting to everything else in between. Another significant hurdle was preparing an optimized model to accurately calculate food metrics while maintaining a smooth user experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud to have launched the entire project in just 29 days, from the initial idea to a published app in the Apple App Store. This rapid turnaround required intense focus and dedication to get everything done on time.

What we learned

I learned the importance of cutting corners and focusing on minimal functionality to launch a viable MVP. Many features were postponed to meet the deadline, highlighting the necessity of prioritizing core functionalities.

What's next for Avoguido

The next steps for Avoguido include improving the user experience (UX) and user interface (UI), providing more detailed statistics for users, and enhancing communication to build stronger relationships with our customers.
