Aviation Incident Command: Tactical HUD
Inspiration
Flight tracking and incident reporting are usually separate, expensive and complex by nature. This app scrapes and mines the data into a unified ICAO compatible format and a stunning visual dashboard to make sense of global flight safety data in real-time.
What it does
- Live 3D Tracking: Real-time plane movements on a Three.js globe.
- Incident Extraction: Automatically identifies issues like FIRE or ENGINE failure from narratives.
- Clean Interface: Manifest cards with IATA codes and status icons.
- Data Reliability: Multi-tier hydration and record auditing against multiple data streams.
How we built it
- Stack: React, Vite, Three.js, and Neo4j.
- Data Engine: Parallel TypeScript scrapers with ProxyJet (SOCKS5) and direct-link fallbacks.
- Design: Stunning hand crafted UI for a cockpit-grade look.
Challenges
Handling aggressive scraper blocks on aviation data sources. I built a custom proxy manager to swap connection types dynamically and an engine to map messy text to official codes.
Accomplishments
- Design & Performance: A professional, instrument-grade dashboard that operates smoothly without lag on any modern device.
- Unified Data Model: Successfully synchronized data from multiple fragmented sources into a single, scalable schema that handles complex edge cases and ensures data integrity.
What's next
Integrating an AI model trained on archived flight data to mine potential safety issues using Neo4j. We’re also adding a query engine to allow plain-text questions about safety trends.
