Chosen Theme

Our chosen theme is Environment Qn 2.

What it does

We created an app for users to keep track of their daily recycling activities. We successfully managed to code out the account feature for users to sign up and login to their respective accounts. The purpose of having individual accounts is to ensure that the data regarding an individual’s recycling is kept separate and secure from others. Then, we intended for the main feature of the app to be a form system where users can input the category and description of what they recycled and submit it. In turn, based on what they recycled and how much (over multiple recycles), they can earn achievements present in the web application that they can present. However, due to time constraints, we were unable to complete the coding of this portion to completion.

How it answers the questions

Our intended hack would help aid the problem as it provides users an incentive to recycle with the promise of receiving achievements. This in turn essentially encourages recycling behaviour.

How did we build it

We utilised the MERN stack for our hack. We divided the project into frontend and backend and built up each compartment separately.

What we learned

As it was our first hackathon, we were quick to find out that time was the biggest obstacle. As a result, we were not able to complete as much of the project as we intended to.
