Every software developer has their own pet project they like to work on in their own time. I am currently developing a pirate adventure game with some co-workers... We call it "Avast"... some awesome full title to come once we have a one.
We originally started working on Avast about 4 years ago using XNA and written in C#. Many long night we slaved away and many gallons of ale we drank (you may be getting why we went for pirates by this point). We made good progress but as will all personal projects we hit a wall, personal lives took over and all progress ceased.
It wasn't all negative, we learnt a lot of lessons and we moved on. Now we are back and the blood of the team refreshed. We have found some awesome creative team member (which we didn't have before) and we also found Unity! Now I have heard about Unity before but never really looked much into it but after a couple of hours playing about looking at the capabilities I felt that passion to create once more and I knew what we needed to move Avast forward.
We started development again in December using Unity and we have made so much more progress in 2 months than we did in 2 years in XNA. All the members (my co-workers) of the team are excited to get into work and show off what we have been working on overnight or over the weekend. It feels good to be part of something that we have created together and I feel that it won't be long before Avast will soon be available for you to download.
I know I haven't told you that much about Avast itself but I hope to share more it with you shortly. Thanks for reading.
