Inspiration

Groceries is today neither fun nor easy. Avanti will provide you a new and unique shopping experience! Have you ever asked yourself if your favorite product is also a sustainable one? How do you compare the healthiness of your products? Is the biggest package of a product always the cheapest one? Which recipes are available for my purchased product? Avanti assists you in answering all these questions!

What it does

While shopping, Avanti allows you to scan the products and it automatically adds it to your basket. However, it will also show you product alternatives according to your personal preferences (sustainability, healthiness, best price) and possible recipes around your product. You are free to exchange then the scanned product or keep it if you wish.

With the healthiness comparison we can motivate people to buy healthier food as healthiness consists always of two parts: Sports and nutrition!

In order to enhance user experience, we also provide a custom cell phone holder to attach it to any shopping cart. Shopping has never been easier!

How we built it

We have developed custom graph algorithms to crunch the product and recipe data and built a cross plattform App with Flutter. The Flutter App scans the product barcodes and receives recommendations from our graphs.

Challenges we ran into

Data cleansing was challenging as the structure and the quality of the product data varied heavily. Also retrieving data from multiple data sources and combining it in our database was a bit underestimated as the API definitions were not always up to date.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have a fully functioning App that we can deploy on our smart phones. The design is highly customizable and can be adapted to any branding very quickly. Also our machine learning models worked better than anticipated and the results of them are impressive.

At last but not least, we are really proud of having developed a functioning App which could decrease our carbon footprint and therefor make this world a better place.

What we learned

Developing custom graph algorithms to crunch product and recipe data. We also gained more experience in video editing, story telling and Mobile App development.

What's next for Avanti

We would like to establish contact with retailers and other businesses to hear their feedback and opinion about our project and are open for a possible continuation and implementation of our MVP.

I've developed the frontend part of our project using Flutter. I was able to extend my Flutter know-how, specially on how to integrate a custom camera widget which runs parallel to the App.
