AV Dial

Inspiration

AV Dial avoids severe notification fatigue from smart home security cameras. Traditional mobile applications send endless alerts for trivial events like rustling leaves or passing cars. I realized that high stakes home security required a dedicated physical interface. When I discovered the Logitech MX Creative Console and the MX Master 4, I saw the perfect opportunity to create a tactile mission control center. I wanted to replace passive screen tapping with proactive physical controls.

What it does

AV Dial is an autonomous security triage and response plugin. It connects the Logitech hardware directly to a Home Assistant instance. By turning the MX Dial, I can scrub through a security timeline based on semantic events recognized by an artificial intelligence, rather than just fast forwarding raw video. The LCD keys on the console update continuously with thumbnail images of detected visitors. Furthermore, I mapped the Actions Ring on the MX Master 4 to serve as an emergency response trigger. A single gesture can lock all perimeter doors and activate floodlights.
