Inspiration

Subscription-based services have become a regular part of digital life, but they also introduce a common problem: users often forget about active subscriptions, free trials turning into paid plans, and recurring charges that continue without clear intent. This silent financial leakage inspired the idea behind AutoPay Guardian.

The goal was to explore how an AI agent wallet could actively protect users, instead of passively tracking expenses. The Chimoney Agent Wallet Challenge provided the perfect opportunity to experiment with autonomous, policy-driven financial agents.

What it does

AutoPay Guardian is an AI-powered agent wallet designed to autonomously manage subscription payments. The agent continuously monitors recurring transactions, tracks spending trends, and enforces predefined wallet policies.

Key capabilities include:

  • Identifying active subscription services
  • Enforcing monthly spending limits
  • Detecting inactive or low-value subscriptions
  • Blocking or pausing unwanted renewals
  • Generating transparent decision logs for user trust

Instead of requiring manual intervention, the agent acts as a financial guardian that makes informed decisions on behalf of the user.

How we built it

The project was built using the Google Gemini API to simulate intelligent agent behavior and decision-making. The wallet logic was designed around policy-based automation, where financial rules define how the agent responds to different subscription scenarios.

A dashboard interface was created to visualize wallet balance, monthly spending, active services, AI-generated savings, and merchant-level insights. The focus was not just on UI, but on demonstrating how an AI agent wallet can reason, decide, and act autonomously within safe boundaries.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was designing agent behavior that felt both autonomous and trustworthy. Fully automated decisions can be risky in financial systems, so careful attention was given to safeguards such as spending caps, renewal alerts, and explainable decision logs.

Another challenge was balancing realism with scope, ensuring the project remained practical and aligned with real-world fintech use cases within the hackathon timeframe.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully designed a purpose-driven AI agent wallet
  • Demonstrated autonomous subscription management with clear financial value
  • Implemented policy-based controls and explainable agent decisions
  • Created a clean, professional dashboard suitable for real fintech applications

The project clearly showcases the concept of agentic finance rather than just expense tracking.

What we learned

This project provided valuable insight into how AI agents can be applied responsibly in financial systems. We learned that autonomy must always be paired with transparency, and that policy-driven design is essential for building trust in AI-managed wallets.

It also highlighted the potential of agent wallets as active participants in financial decision-making, not just passive tools.

What's next for AutoPay Guardian: Autonomous Subscription Wallet

Future improvements could include learning user preferences over time, smarter usage detection, deeper subscription categorization, and multi-wallet support for personal and business use cases.

AutoPay Guardian represents an early step toward intelligent financial agents that protect users, optimize spending, and redefine how people interact with money.
