Inspiration

We are inspired from the vending machines present in almost every part of the world and our prototype basically follows the same basic principle of lending/issuing books.

What it does

Our prototype can be used to automatically scan the book and fetch both book details and the details of student issuing the book keeping a track of total number of available books in the library along with the issued date and return date. This can make it more easier to manage and lend books with least possible human interference.

How we built it

The code is made using python language and MySQL database which can keep a proper record of all the books and student information. The hardware model is made using Arduino, RFID sensors and some other hardware components essential for prototype.

Challenges we ran into

It was a difficult task to ideate upon something related to the theme Tech for Good and use that idea integrated with heavy amount of data in an effective way. Apart from that the coding part was although easier as compared to the hardware components being arranged in proper order for its smooth functioning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

TechMates is proud of the final result and also of what we accomplished is such a great thing in our initial years of engineering which helped us learn a lot.

What we learned

We learnt many new concepts and also implemented our theoretical knowledge into the practical one enhancing our problem solving skills and all that is a team effort which made us realise the importance of team building.

What's next for Automated Library Management System

We plan to prepare the front end for our application and also optimise the existing code to its full potential. Our long term goal is to introduce this system into the real world with a quality hardware such as a kiosk so that each and every individual can gain access to it and help make the world more sustainable.
