Inspiration

TeamChild is in a position to connect people with stories to tell with lawmakers and the public. Telling a relevant story at the right time impacts policy. However, having recorded stories is a security risk and restricts people who don't want to be recorded from participating. We wanted to add some filters and initial client screening to a phone tree / call list solution, so that TeamChild could invite participants to share their stories live.

What it does

Using information initially gathered from volunteer sign up interest forms, coordinators select potentially interested participants and send them a text message. Interested participants reply to be put on a follow up list. Follow up lists are generated 48 hours after the message is sent.

How we built it

Assuming Amazon had most of what we wanted and Python had the rest.

Challenges we ran into

Limited developer power, we agreed this was a project worth working on past the hackathon and focused on architecture and infrastructure.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Developing a clear picture of risk mitigation around data as seen by lawyers who are invested in confidentiality and committed to helping youth seal records. Developing architecture that works for low-income folks with limited phone minutes, time, and access to wifi.

What we learned

Lawyers are good at thinking about risks.

What's next for Automated Call To Action

Have another hack weekend.
