We plan to create an automated alarm system that can track and analyze sleep quality and habits. The automated alarm system is inspired by the sleep-deprived Penn students’ frequent need to snooze their alarm clocks and mistake of waking up late for class. The fools proof solution is an automated alarm system that incorporates an Arduino wristband and Google Calendar. The automated alarm system responds accordingly to the wearer’s movements and requires no physical buttons. The Arduino wristband is worn while sleeping and is used to gauge when to stop the alarm clock. For testing and demonstration purposes, the length of time was shortened. The device utilizes Google Calendar to set its alarm time, creating a fully automated experience. Whether or not the device turns off depends on the movements after the initial alarm buzzer. When the acceleration passes the threshold at least once every 5 seconds for a total of 15 seconds, the device knows that the person is fully awake and will turn off automatically by itself. However, a lack of peaks after the first alarm indicates that the person fell back asleep, and the snooze function is automatically turned on. The amount of snoozes can be recorded and sent to a network for analysis. If the user does not wake up after 3 rounds, it will send a message to the network, in which it notifies someone to wake up the user.
