Inspiration
As an automation and RPA lead, I see firsthand how much time corporate users and developers waste on repetitive web tasks, data entry, and navigating fragmented portals. With the introduction of OpenAI's WebMCP, we have a groundbreaking opportunity to shift from rigid scripts to fluid, agent-driven web automation. We wanted to build a bridge where human intent and browser execution meet seamlessly.
What it does
AutoFlow Web Agent is an intelligent browser assistant powered by WebMCP. It allows users and AI agents to interact, execute workflows, and perform automated actions directly within the web application. By registering native tools through WebMCP, the AI can understand page structures and execute tasks like automated data processing and form handling on command.
How we built it
We built the application using modern web technologies for a clean UI and integrated WebMCP via JavaScript APIs:
- Registered tools using
document.modelContext.registerToolto expose core browser automation functions. - Structured the execution layer to handle input schemas safely and reliably.
- Deployed a lightweight, responsive interface optimized for AI agent integration.
Challenges we faced
The main challenge was designing a robust schema for the WebMCP tool registration to ensure the AI could reliably parse input parameters and trigger the correct execution functions without failing on edge cases.
What we learned
We discovered how powerful native browser-context tool use can be. It eliminates the need for heavy, brittle external browser extensions by letting the web page itself expose its capabilities directly to AI models.
