🚀 Inspiration

We’ve all been there — caught in situations we’d rather escape. Whether it's bailing on a last-minute meeting, avoiding awkward plans, or just needing a graceful way out of a social commitment, coming up with the perfect excuse can be surprisingly hard.
That's when the idea struck us:
“What if AI could cook up the perfect excuse, based on real-world context like weather, time, and location?”
Boom. AutoExcuse Maker was born — part smart, part sassy, and all convenience.

🤖 What it does

AutoExcuse Maker is an AI-powered excuse generator that crafts personalized, context-aware excuses based on:

  • 📍 Your location
  • ☁️ Real-time weather
  • 🕒 Current time
  • 🎭 Tone of the message (e.g., apologetic, funny, formal)

It generates excuses that sound natural, timely, and just believable enough to get you out of almost anything.

🧱 How we built it

  • Used Bolt.new with a single One-Shot prompt to generate all dynamic outputs.
  • Integrated Dappier to handle real-time API calls for:
    • Location
    • Weather
    • Time
  • Designed a clean and minimal frontend with support for dark/light modes.
  • User input is gathered via form and sent to our one-shot AI pipeline with all relevant context — the generated excuse is displayed instantly.

🧗‍♂️ Challenges we ran into

  • Crafting a single prompt that could handle all tones and conditions without breaking context was tough.
  • Balancing humor with realism — making sure excuses are believable yet funny.
  • Handling API failures gracefully and keeping the user experience seamless.

  • Add voice and SMS excuse delivery.
  • Let users save, favorite, or auto-schedule excuses.
  • Create an “Excuse Archive” leaderboard of the funniest/wildest excuses ever generated.
  • Expand support for custom situations (e.g. "skip gym", "avoid dinner with boss", etc).
