Inspiration
I wanted to challenge myself at creating something powerful enough that when used correctly can give a single moderator the ability to stop 1000's of people about to tear down and de-rail a post, with nothing more then a few commands.
What it does
AutoEnforcer is an automated enforcement tool, however it also can be directly invoked with simple commands by a moderator in real time, taking action on each post that its summoned, independently.
AutoEnforcer doesn't aim to take the moderator away from what they are already comfortable with, on the contrary, moderators will love the enhancements that AutoEnforcer brings to native reddit. All their favorite quick actions and investigative tools on the same familiar interface they are accustomed to.
How we built it
We built it with pride, In knowing we were going to deliver exactly what we wanted to deliver. It runs like a well oiled machine powered by hardened redis integration and promising graceful degradation, while capitalizing on idempotency. AutoEnforcer is a production ready moderation tool, on a league of its own.
Focused on a Privacy & Security first approach, everything stays within Reddit, even the extension it uses transfers data that is encrypted via AES-256 and decrypted with a secure key. There is not one area we left open to breach.
Challenges we ran into
Figuring out what to make was the biggest challenge... Reddit is a world of it's own, and no matter what you make you'll never please all of the mods.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating this amazing tool that we hope moderators will learn to love and appreciate!
What we learned
Well I wouldn't say so much as learned... But it definitely made us happy we have in-depth knowledge of networking and database usage. It was not easy packing all these features into one app while making sure we don't get near any rate limits or constraints.
What's next for AutoEnforcer
We want to continue making AutoEnforcer work for every moderator, and we are wiling to listen and to build.
