Inspiration

We wanted to streamline the process of making informational shorts, and realized FFmpeg could handle most of the heavy lifting.

What it does

Auto-Short compiles a finished short for you. Once you pick your presets, all you have to do is write the script. It generates an AI voiceover, switches background footage at the start of every sentence, adds music from your folder, and overlays animated subtitles in the font of your choice.

How we built it

We wrote Auto-Short in Python, using FFmpeg to handle the video compilation.

Challenges we ran into

Getting the subtitle easing to look right was the hardest part. It took many variations before the animation felt smooth and natural.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the consistent output quality and how much faster the program runs compared to when it was first made.

What we learned

Development is never smooth, and reaching the goal takes steady work over time. Learning from our mistakes and making good revisions is what got us there.

What's next for Auto-Short

Next, we plan to simplify the TTS voice options, font choices, and export settings so the app is easier to use.
