Inspiration

I found that video captioning options in canva were limited, so I built Auto Captions AI!

What it does

Auto Captions AI generated trendy, engaging subtitles/captions for your videos made in Canva. You can customize colors, font styles, positioning, animation, and more!

How I built it

I used a large whisper model for transcriptions of the videos, and i built a custom video editor and integrated it into canva to make it super easy for the user to preview caption styles and the placement of the captions in the video. heavy use of claude 3.5 assisted me with the coding.

Challenges we ran into

It was very tricky to get the video editor component to work well with both vertical (short form content) and horizontal traditional videos.

I also didn't have time to add b-roll/stock footage option using AI.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We added over 5 different templates of trendy caption presets similar to top content creators.

What's next for Auto Captions AI

Next we will expand Auto Captions to become an all in one tool for editing your canva videos with AI, this will include features like automatic b-roll/stock footage by understanding what the speaker is saying at any point in time, and more!
