Inspiration
We thought that with the COVID-19 situation, the issues surrounding people with such mental disorders such as autism are not represented well enough. We thus decided to do a project to not only raise awareness for them but also help stimulate an environment for these autistic people to improve their environments.
What it does
Our app uses augmented reality to simulate real-life scenarios and daily tasks in safe and controlled environments. Because autistic individuals face varying degrees of impediments to their growth and ability to acclimatize to daily scenarios and tasks, some face greater difficulties than others. Our app will allow autistic individuals to practice completing tasks and get used to these daily scenarios.
How I built it
We used React for the front end framework, utilising echo AR's augmented reality to assist with the 3D stimulations and visualisations to give a more visualising appeal for the user. For the backend, we used echo AR's API and database with the metadata to make a more cohesive experience with data analytics and machine learning.
Challenges I ran into
We ran into some issues implementing some of the echoAR technologies. However, we found the app extremely easy and convenient to use, and its API is extremely user friendly and allows for easy streamlining to provide fast and accurate data that can be plotted into charts and graphs.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
This is our first hackathon but yet we have accomplished a lot in terms of front-end and back-end frameworks. We managed to integrate the echoAR back-end to make for a more cohesive experience, and we even used data analytics to recommend our users what kind of activities they can do next. Overall, we were very proud and satisfied of what we have done, and we even feel that this product is a feasible product in the market that will be scalable.
What I learned
Time management skills, how to make scalable products that have real-life applications and how to delegate tasks properly in a team.
What's next for AutismCare
Scaling it to a world-wide app where users will be able to interact with it, and also help autistic individuals all around the world.
