Authentic Foods app

Inspiration

Whether it be in the workplace, equal pay, place in society, it has always been an uphill battle for women. The gender discriminatory notions in society are sown into their brains from a young age, discouraging them from pursuing entrepreneurship. As the workforce becomes increasingly diverse, with more women than ever before, it is crucial to empower them and challenge longstanding discrimination. I strive to uplift aspiring female entrepreneurs like myself through innovative technological solutions.

Even after three years, I could never forget the mouthwatering soup that my grandma had prepared. Various restaurants and stores could never compete with the flavor and freshness of my grandma’s authentic soup. However, at a recent potluck, one of my neighbors had prepared a similar authentic soup that I simply could not get enough of. I knew that I could not be the only one in my community who was earning for authentic homemade meals. In addition, I saw that these talented women could make immense profits with their skills. With the skills and experience gained through creating an Android app for a school project, I aimed to develop an app that would allow them to utilize their skills to run small businesses.

What it does

Technica gave me the opportunity to bring this vision into reality. I created a prototype app Authentic Foods that allows users to buy authentic meals from local home cooks. This app would be able to fulfill the longing desire of food enthusiasts to quickly find flavorful authentic meals. However, more importantly, this app will give the opportunity for homemakers, who are predominantly women, to utilize their cooking skills to run a small business within their own kitchen!

How I built it

I built the app user interface design with Adobe Photoshop and Sketch. This design is being developed using Android Studio,Google-Map-platform and Push-notifications-API

Challenges I ran into

Credibility of homecooks is the biggest challenge for this app. I overcame this through customer ratings and reviews for the homecooks.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Finding an app solution that has the potential to unleash a new system of running small business, while also challenging gender discrimination and empowering female entrepreneurs.

What's next for Authentic Foods app

As we progress into a new era of safely living with COVID-19 still among us, small businesses continue to shut down due to restrictions and bankruptcy. In this new era, small businesses adopt new strategies like eliminating storefronts in order to thrive. In the future, I would like to extend this app into various domains, including sewing, hairstyling etc., allowing women to capitalize on their skills and run successful small businesses in their own homes.
