Inspiration
We were inspired by seeing our peers around us working together and supporting each other. Through these close collaborations we were able to see how everyone has something to contribute and provide to the community. If we are struggling there is bound to be somebody in the community that can support us or help us. Through aurora, locals can seek and provide help to one another.
What it does
Our website has a main page that provides a short overview of what our website is and access to the services page. On the services page, users can make posts requesting for help from fellow community members by clicking on “Make a Request”. The website will them prompt users to enter information regarding their request and they can create the post. A post will then appear at the bottom of the page. Each post will include a task description, and users can scan through all posts and click the “interested” button when a post catches their eye. As a result, a pop up appears and it provides the event location, date and time of the request as well as the post owner’s contact information. From here, users have the option of signing up for the job or declining. Example of posts include seeking services, needing to borrow something, or wanted help in hosting events.
How we built it
We used react javascript as well as MUI components for our project.
Challenges we ran into
This was our first time using react javascript so familiarizing ourselves with the code took a lot of research and trial and error.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
An accomplishment that we are proud of is figuring out how to use ReactJS's "useState" in many of our components. As this was four first time coding with ReactJS, we didn't know much about the language, so we're proud that we managed to figure out and utilize useState quite nicely.
What we learned
We learned how to use react javascript and work together through GitHub.
What's next for Aurora
In the future we hope to incorporate a page for community news and large events. We also hope to add features such as neighborhood watch or community chat.
