Inspiration

Our Inspiration is to simplify the life of the urban commuter and to reduce the usage of your phone to promote a more hands-free experience

What it does

It tracks your progression to a step goal, it tracks your progression on a set walking path and leads you through the step by step instructions and senses outdoor temperatures and notifies you if you are in extreme temperatures that are not sustainable suitable

How we built it

We used microcontrollers in each arm to track the number of steps and the current location on a predetermined route set by the user. Both microcontrollers take temperature readings and relay the information to the single illuminated ring on the chest of the jacket. We used wires to connect most of the parts because of the internal resistance of the conductive thread

Challenges we ran into

The internal resistance of the conductive thread was too high to reliably use across the whole jacket so more wires needed to be implemented and hidden. All of the LED's needed to have the contacts soldered onto the board and they would not latch for hours. Stripping wires without proper wire strippers made the copper wire slightly inaccurate and caused it to read slightly inaccurate information until we fixed the threading problem

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting the Microcontrollers to fully function properly. Soldering properly one our first few tries. Overcoming circuitry problems with resistance and not enough current or too much current to a single board

What we learned

How to use an Arduino with zero prior experience and making it relay information from a cloud-based service to an accurate GPS monitor that can work without an internet connection

What's next for Aurora

Getting more accurate sensors and acquiring the correct sensors for the data we are trying to read instead of receiving different styles of input and doig math to calculate the desired values
