AuraBand: Empowering Neurodiverse Individuals with AI + IoT

AuraBand was inspired by the everyday challenges faced by individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). They often experience sensory overload, emotional dysregulation, difficulty focusing, routine dependency, and challenges in communication. During research, we found that existing solutions are fragmented: One app for communication Another for routines Separate devices for stress monitoring No early warning system for sensory overload No real-time alerts to caregivers. This fragmentation motivated us to build one unified solution that can support them in real time.

-What We Built We created AuraBand, a combined hardware + software wearable support system consisting of: ---Smart Wearable Device Continuously monitors: Heart rate Skin conductance (GSR) Sound levels Light intensity Motion & activity (accelerometer)

--Mobile App (Android / iOS) Provides: Real-time sensor dashboard AI-driven stress & sensory overload prediction Calming tools (breathing, vibration cues, music) ADHD-friendly focus timer Visual routine planner Emergency alerts to caregivers

-What We Learned Relationship between HR, GSR, and emotional stress How sensory overload can be detected using sound/light thresholds BLE communication with ESP32 and reliable packet parsing Implementing on-device machine learning with TensorFlow Lite Designing sensory-friendly and accessible UI Integrating multi-sensor fusion for accurate predictions
