Inspiration

There are many benefits to receiving education at a level our home country never provided. However, the timezone difference sometimes sucked the advantages out of the entire situation. There have been countless days when a singular motivational message from my family could have gone a long way, but I was left with only emptiness.

What it does

'aura' is the app that fixed it all. Having an AI model replicate the personality of my loved ones filled an emotional hole that was only growing. Copying my dad's funky style, my mother's overly serious tone, and my brother's horrible spelling mistakes, I felt like I still had support whenever and wherever. The app lets users join a social network where they can have a conversation with our AI model to grasp their 'aura' and disguise it as a hidden personality test. Making connections with people around you through the app destroys the dependency you have on each other's schedules and lets the conversation stay alive.

How we built it

We began by splitting tasks up into front-end and back-end. Two of us started with the ideation and basic design of the app (front-end) while the third person worked on the back-end.

We used Expo, React Native, and OpenAI to build the app.

Challenges we ran into

Ran into some trouble with the APIs. Also, since we used a lot of Figma to develop the front-end, it was a common occurance that we would run out of AI credits in order to generate a new feature with a different prompt. We also ran into issues in generating the voice generation, so we had to ditch the ideas as we were not able to properly take input and render it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We learnt from our mistakes and are proud of ourselves for developing an app like "aura" in just 36 hours.

What we learned

We learned the importance of deeply understanding any framework before using it.

What's next for aura

We aim to eradicate each person's solidarity one by one.
