Inspiration
News apps are often filled with clickbait, endless scrolling, and information overload. I wanted to build a simpler experience where people can understand the biggest stories of the day in under a minute.
What it does
Aura delivers today's important news in concise 60-word summaries with a clean, distraction-free interface. Users can quickly browse categories, stay informed, and spend less time scrolling.
How I built it
Aura is built with Flutter and Dart for a fast cross-platform experience. Firebase powers authentication, Firestore stores news content, Firebase Cloud Messaging handles notifications, and Google Sign-In provides seamless login. The backend is designed to publish news efficiently while keeping the app lightweight and responsive.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge was reducing complex news into clear 60-word summaries without losing important context. We also focused on optimizing image loading, notification delivery, and creating a smooth reading experience.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We successfully built and launched a production-ready news application with a clean design, fast performance, push notifications, and an easy-to-use content management workflow.
What I learned
Building Aura taught us how important performance, simplicity, and user experience are. Every second saved and every unnecessary tap removed improves the reading experience.
What's next for Aura - News in 60 Words
Our roadmap includes smarter personalization, better topic recommendations, bookmarking, richer news categories, and sustainable monetization through advertising while keeping the reading experience clean and distraction-free.
