Aura Atlas — A Soulful Location Explorer

Inspiration

In an age of hyper-productivity and burnout, I noticed how often people search for places to escape, feel safe, or reconnect with themselves. Most maps help us find what is nearby—but I wanted to create something that tells us how a place might feel. What if a map could guide your soul, not just your schedule? That question led to Aura Atlas—a conscious mapping experience designed to help people find places based on emotional energy, aesthetic ambiance, and inner alignment.

What it does

Aura Atlas helps users explore and discover places not just by name or rating—but by "emotional intent." Whether you're seeking a calm spot to journal, a high-vibe café to meet new people, or a nostalgic lane for evening walks—Aura Atlas maps it through intuitive categories like: -Peaceful & Reflective -High-Energy & Social -Nostalgic & Healing -Artistic & Creative -Spiritual & Sacred Users can filter, explore, and navigate through Google Maps APIs enhanced with curated tags and community insights.

How we built it

Platform: Built using HTML, CSS, JavaScript APIs Used: Google Maps JavaScript API (with custom markers, filters, and overlays) Hosting: Deployed using Netlify at Aura Atlas Live Demo Tools: Bolt.new (by Replit), Google Fonts, and simple front-end libraries for responsive design

The UI is minimal yet expressive, focusing on clarity and emotional resonance. Bolt's real-time editor accelerated the prototyping process immensely.

Challenges we ran into

-Designing emotional categories: Translating abstract feelings into mapped attributes was conceptually challenging. -API Key limitations: Ensuring secure and functional integration with the Google Maps Platform took multiple iterations. -Front-end glitches: Initially, the UI rendered a blank screen until deployment was properly configured with Netlify.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-Completed a functional prototype in under 24 hours using real Google Maps data. -Developed a working emotional mapping logic that can be expanded further into AI-driven curation. -Built a project that blends wellness, UX, and tech meaningfully.

What we learned

Learned to integrate and customize Google Maps APIs efficiently. Understood how spatial data can be repurposed for emotional design. Discovered how low-code tools like Bolt can serve rapid prototyping beautifully for location-based applications.

What's next for Aura Atlas

Add community contributions: Users will soon be able to tag places based on how they “feel.” Integrate sentiment analysis: Scrape and analyze Google Reviews to assign "Aura Scores." Build a mobile-first version and publish on Play Store with Firebase backend. Launch a feedback loop for people to "bookmark memories" based on moods.
