According to research by IBM, bad data and manual invoice processing errors cost the U.S. economy alone over $3.1 trillion annually. Enterprises handle thousands of complex vendor invoices daily, leading to costly discrepancies, delayed audits, compliance penalties, and huge manual overhead.

What it does

AuditX is an AI-powered enterprise invoice auditing and compliance engine. Users simply upload invoice documents (PDFs or images), and AuditX automatically:

  • Extracts Key Financial Data:** Captures vendor names, invoice numbers, tax breakdowns, line items, and totals accurately.
  • Performs Automated Compliance Audits:** Runs multi-rule mathematical and tax compliance checks using a high-performance Python engine.
  • Detects Financial Anomalies:** Flags missing tax IDs, total mismatches, duplicate entries, and potential fraud.
  • Generates Actionable Insights:** Provides structured data exports (JSON/CSV) and an interactive web dashboard for finance teams.

How we built it

  • Frontend:** Built with Streamlit for a fast, intuitive web interface designed for finance and operations teams.
  • Backend Engine:** High-performance Python backend managing document parsing, validation, and automated math checks.
  • Document Parsing:** Integrated pdfplumber to extract clean text from multi-page vendor invoices for automated analysis.

Challenges we ran into

  • Building Entirely on Mobile: Developing, debugging, and deploying a full Python/Streamlit web application completely from an Android phone required immense patience, mobile browser workarounds, and continuous remote code management.
  • API Constraints & Zero-Budget Limits: Navigating strict free-tier rate limits, API quota ceilings, and model-version deprecations without a commercial budget required creative architectural workarounds and rigorous error handling.
  • Handling Varied Document Layouts: Invoices vary across vendors, tax regimes, and formats. Standardizing extraction across diverse layouts required robust prompt engineering and schema validation.
  • Ensuring 100% Mathematical Precision: Financial software cannot afford hallucinated numbers. I coupled AI extraction with deterministic Python verification logic to cross-check line-item totals against grand totals.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully building and deploying a full-stack AI compliance and invoice auditing engine entirely as a solo developer from an Android phone. Designing a hybrid architecture that combines AI text parsing with deterministic Python mathematical validation to completely eliminate AI hallucinations in financial auditing. Implementing clean, automated CSV and JSON export pipelines for financial data reporting.

What we learned

  • Mastered mobile-first development workflows, learning how to code, debug, and manage remote GitHub repositories under constrained environments. * Deepened my understanding of enterprise API rate-limit management, error-handling loops, and structural data parsing using Streamlit and Python. * Learned how to balance AI capabilities with strict programmatic safeguards for high-stakes financial data.

What's next for AuditX

  • Integrating automated vendor email alerts to dispatch discrepancy reports instantly upon upload.
  • Expanding multi-currency support and localized tax compliance rules for cross-border international invoicing.
  • Scaling the infrastructure to support batch-processing multiple vendor invoices simultaneously.
