Inspiration
Scams often do not look suspicious at first. The warning signs appear gradually across a conversation, so we wanted to explore whether a voice assistant could notice rising risk without alarming or interrogating the user too early.
What it does
TrustCue is a simulated Alexa+ experience that moves gradually from normal โ curious โ protective as scam signals accumulate. It first asks natural clarifying questions, then gently surfaces concern and offers a safe next step only when enough evidence appears.
How we built it
TrustCue uses Amazon Nova 2 Lite through Amazon Bedrock for conversation and Amazon Polly for speech. Nova extracts evidence from each turn, while deterministic code maps those signals into six risk families and decides when the assistant changes modes.
Challenges we ran into
Prompting alone was not reliable enough. Nova sometimes produced malformed tool output, inconsistent neighboring signal labels, or safety advice too early, so we added code-level guards, evidence verification, normalization, and bounded retries.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made the transition from normal conversation to protective assistance gradual and inspectable. The Judge view shows the exact evidence, risk score, mode changes, rewrites, and trigger turn, while Demo Replay runs real scenarios through the same live workflow as user input.
What we learned
The model is better at identifying evidence than deciding when to intervene. Keeping that policy in deterministic code made the experience more stable, and we also learned that voice delivery matters: protective responses should sound calmer and more deliberate, not more alarmed.
What's next for TrustCue
Next, we want to test more scam situations, improve real-world voice interaction, and explore moving from the simulated Alexa+ experience toward a real Alexa+ or MCP integration. Longer term, TrustCue could add persistent context, more communication channels, multilingual support, and broader scam knowledge.
