Inspiration

I wanted to build something that I could use myself and perhaps be used by other disabled people to make life a little easier.

What it does

Attention Please is potentially an web-based open source alternative to SIRI or Alexa.

How I built it

Attention Please is a Javascript project that is built with various open source APIs.

Challenges we ran into

I ran into issues with browser compatibility. My app currently only runs on a desktop version of Chrome. I wanted to make webpages controllable from an iFrame within my app, but modern security protocols prevent this on many websites.

Accomplishments that I am proud of

I was able to complete a working prototype with some basic features, plus I was able to make it work hands free. Such as playing the BBC News, Searching the web, and controlling the lights in my apartment.

What I learned

Designing an app from scratch even when using APIs can be very challenging given the time constraints of a hackathon.

What's next for Attention Please

I will continue to add features and share it with my disabled friends.
