Inspiration
I realized I was spending a lot of time browsing random things online — but very little of it actually stuck. Even when I tried using existing extensions to block social media, I ended up unblocking them later. Turns out, the more you block something, the more you want to use it. So, I decided to create AttenGame that encourages positive browsing habits instead — a tool that rewards focus and naturally reduces time wasted on unhelpful sites.
What it does
This extension has three core features:
- The Tamagotchi – A small buddy that grows as you gain “attention XP.” When you focus and complete tasks from your to-do list, you earn rewards and help it evolve.
- The Analytics – It tracks what kind of content you’re browsing (social, research, development, etc.) and visualizes your mental state — scanning, deep focus, or active engagement. It also builds a knowledge graph connecting the dots between the things you read.
- The AI Mind Reader – Powered by the Gemini Prompt API, it learns what topics truly interest you and evaluates the quality of the time you spend exploring them.
How we built it
We built it using JavaScript and Google Gemini Nano API.
Challenges we ran into
At first, none major — but tuning the AI to interpret “focus quality” accurately was trickier than expected.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a fun, gamified way to help people stay focused and make their online time more meaningful.
What we learned
We learned how to let AI not only analyze our habits but also discover new, valuable information for us.
What's next for Attention is all you need - AttenGame
We plan to extend the experience to mobile devices — since most people spend even more time on their phones.
