For our final project we are going to do a RFID based attendance system/monitor. We tried to think what we can do so we can improve the structure of the class, so we saw that most of the classes do no take the attendance, and if some classes do, they use a handwritten paper, which usually distracts students and it is not secure as everyone can cheat and write someone's else name, and is not sustainable because the professor needs to print paper every day. So, we wanted to make something that would be sustainable, using minimal resources, efficient, secure, and easy for everyone to use in every class.
We will do this using Arduino and a RFID MFRC522 module and ESP32 Huzzah 32, using Adafruit.io and Zapier to transfer the data of our code to google sheets, so the professor can download the Excel and see the attendance of the class instantly, and save it to his Drive, where it is difficult to loose and can download an Excel in every lecture. Adafruit will help us see the data of each students' information when they mark their card (time , code of card, amount of accesses with a diagram showing each days accesses) using several feeds and a dashboard displaying the color of the LED, according to the card provided to the RFID MFRC522. In this system, each student is issued an RFID card as their PennCard and their attendance is marked when they touch their card to RFID reader. The components we will need is a Arduino board, RFID MFRC522 Module, SD card module, RTC module, ESP32 Huzzah 32.
Throughout all the challenges that we faced, we managed to make the "Attendance Monitor" that it is simple for everyone to use and it is really helpful for not only the students, but also the professor who will have all the data necessary to see the attendance of the class every day.
