Attendance Bot

Inspiration

I got inspired to make the bot when my online class started and my teachers wasted around 6-8 or even 10 mintues taking attendance in the 40 mins online class.

What it does

The bot or I should say the python program joins the meeting and scrapes the participants list and then compares it with the name list and finally creates four output files which contains names of present, absent, unknown (whose name is not in the name list) and all the participants respectively.

How we built it

I built it using the selenium module and apart from scraping the data it is just the logic which compares the participants list and the name list.

Challenges we ran into

It was a challenging task to get the names of participants in the meeting. I tried class-name, tag-name and finally fetched them using xpath 😅

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud that I built something which can help people save their time and it is so useful. I and my friends will use it at least 7-8 times a day to help out teachers with the attendance.

What we learned

I learned how to create and modify files in python and also the logic for filtering the absentees was quite difficult.

What's next for Attendance Bot

I am thinking of converting it to a .exe file so that everyone in my school and even others can get to use this even if they do not have python installed on their PC.
