Inspiration

I have always wanted to write a game using the Android phone's tilt control. This was my first attempt.

How it works

Using tilt control and the Android phone's built-in accelerometer, shoot down enemy helicopters with machine gun and destroy enemy tanks with bombs. Try to keep the phone level and flat when doing the tilt to get the best results. Also, the tilt control's sensitivity can be adjusted by pressing the menu button.

Challenges I ran into

This was my first full shooter game, I had to figure out everything, design, coding, leveling, and doing the graphics. I was pretty surprised that it had ~180K downloads, and is currently ranked 200th in some African countries (5 years after I wrote it).

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I had never written a game before, and just wanted to try it out. The game ended up having ~180K downloads.

What I learned

Android programming is not hard, but there are subtle differences between it and regular java. Also get ready for a lot of sleep debt.

What's next for Attack Helicopter 2

My day job caught up with me, and I had to quit this project.
