Inspiration
As an avid tennis fan and player, I wanted to make an interactive archive of tennis history, as a tribute to the game I love. Hopefully it will be both informative and amusing for the tennis aficionado.
What it does
A User can interact with the graphics/visuals on the website and see different insights on tennis and its history. This includes ATP tour and Grand Slam events, Olympics, as well as a player ranking animation among other features. The website also includes ATP social media, my LinkedIn, and the tools I used.
How I built it
Octoparse: Web Scraper that was very useful in gleaning initial data from ATP website. Excel: Used to reformat and clean data. Tableau: Used to produce the visuals, graphics, and animations, as well as analyze the data. Wix: To put everything together on a website. PowerPoint: Used to record demo.
Challenges I ran into
First time using Octoparse and Wix, so initial starting trouble. Trouble with spacing sometimes. Also couldn't get sound to work with demo video. Also screen recording with PowerPoint was fun but tricky as well.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud I built an interactive, user friendly website!
What I learned
How to parse data, structure dashboards, and publish a website. I also learned a lot about tennis, and what a truly global game it is.
What's next for ATP Tennis over the Years
This current iteration has tour data from 1877 - 2021. It will need to be updated in the future as tournament information is published.
