Inspiration
Our objective is to streamline user experience with using ATMs. Our solution is to recommend shortcut options for the user at the ATM. We collect data on users for two reasons:
- Collecting user data to tailor experience to the user.
- Collecting users’ data based on the inputs into ATM to evaluate the frequency users pressed certain buttons, then use this information to help modify the ATM experience itself to be enhanced for all users.
What it does
The RBC mobile banking application can integrate Apple’s FaceID technology and cameras at ATMs to create a more seamless banking service. The following features include:
Regular transactions option: The ATM can suggest day-to-day banking options specific to the customer using their transaction trends. For example, suppose a customer withdraws $100 every Friday. the ATM will recognize this customer’s behaviour and if they use an ATM next Friday, the ATM will predict the behaviour of withdrawing $100 and provide this withdrawal as an option for the user. (Example: “Welcome back {user}! Would you like to make your regular transaction? Withdraw $100 from your chequing account (with receipt).” (options yes/no)).
Pop-up reminders: Given the personalized options, a pop-up at the bottom of the screen that relates to a predicted or upcoming transaction the customer may wish to perform. example: If the customer’s monthly credit bill is due, a small pop-up at bottom can appear at the bottom to remind them of this and provide the option to pay.
Schedule ahead ATM visit: Within the RBC banking app, the customer can schedule a transaction they intend to perform at the ATM ahead of time. When they arrive for their scheduled “ATM appointment,” the ATM camera can recognize the customer after the customer selects the FaceID option on the ATM, and perform their scheduled transaction seamlessly.
Challenges we ran into
It was difficult to decide on the exact issue we wished to solve for the usage of ATMs. There were differences in opinions for design and understanding what we wanted to achieve with this solution. We had to remind ourselves that the simpler ideas were more elegant.
What we learned
We learned that teamwork and collaboration are essential to product development. We had to remind ourselves that the simpler ideas were more elegant.
