AtlasAI – AI-Powered Decision Intelligence for Construction Supply Chain Recovery

Inspiration

Construction projects are highly dependent on timely delivery of materials, equipment, and resources. A single delayed shipment can trigger a chain reaction of schedule overruns, idle labor, increased costs, and contractual penalties.

While existing construction platforms provide shipment tracking, dashboards, and delay notifications, they often stop at telling project managers what happened. The responsibility of deciding what to do next still falls entirely on humans, often under significant time pressure.

This inspired us to build AtlasAI, a decision intelligence platform that transforms supply chain disruptions into optimized, explainable recovery strategies instead of simply reporting problems.

What it does

AtlasAI acts as an intelligent decision-support system for construction project managers.

When a disruption such as a delayed shipment or supplier failure occurs, AtlasAI:

Detects the disruption.

Analyzes its impact across the project dependency graph.

Evaluates the problem from procurement, logistics, scheduling, finance, and risk perspectives.

Generates multiple recovery strategies.

Ranks strategies using multi-objective optimization based on cost, delay, and risk.

Explains why the recommended strategy is the most suitable.

Rather than replacing human decision-makers, AtlasAI provides transparent recommendations that help project teams respond faster and with greater confidence.

How we built it

AtlasAI is designed as a modular AI decision intelligence platform.

The proposed architecture consists of:

Frontend: Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS

Backend: FastAPI (Python)

Project Dependency Modeling: NetworkX

Data Processing: Pandas

Optimization Engine: Multi-objective decision scoring

Explainability Layer: Local or cloud-hosted LLM for natural-language explanations

Database: SQLite/PostgreSQL

The system separates deterministic decision logic from language generation, ensuring recommendations remain transparent and explainable while using AI to communicate insights clearly.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges was identifying a genuine industry gap rather than building another AI chatbot.

We found that many existing solutions focus on visibility—tracking shipments, monitoring deliveries, or predicting delays—but few help managers choose the best recovery strategy once a disruption occurs.

Another challenge was balancing technical ambition with hackathon feasibility. Instead of relying entirely on large language models, we designed a hybrid architecture combining graph-based reasoning, optimization, and explainable AI to produce reliable and actionable recommendations.

What we learned

Through researching construction supply chain workflows, we realized that the most valuable AI systems do not simply automate tasks—they augment human decision-making.

We also learned the importance of explainability. In construction projects involving multiple stakeholders, understanding why a recommendation is made is just as important as the recommendation itself.

Future Scope

AtlasAI has the potential to evolve into a comprehensive construction decision intelligence platform by integrating:

ERP systems (SAP, Oracle)

BIM (Building Information Modeling)

IoT sensor data

Real-time weather and logistics feeds

Digital twins

Multi-project portfolio optimization

Predictive risk analytics

Our long-term vision is to move construction management from reactive problem solving to proactive, AI-assisted decision intelligence.

Conclusion

AtlasAI is not another dashboard or chatbot.

It is a decision intelligence platform designed to help construction teams recover from supply chain disruptions through optimized, explainable, and data-driven decision support.
