Inspiration

Mainstream fashion retail platforms are built for generic trends, relying on repetitive designs and uninspired algorithms. Enthusiasts of niche subcultures like techwear, cyberpunk, and dystopian fashion often have to scour disparate forums, hunt across unverified marketplaces, and guess whether individual pieces fit together visually.

We built ATLAS 1 to solve this fragmentation. The goal was to build a dedicated universe for futuristic fashion that treats alternative style as a cohesive narrative rather than just individual SKU numbers.

What it does

ATLAS 1 is a global e-commerce and curated discovery platform for futuristic clothing, tactical streetwear, and cyberpunk aesthetics.

  • Curated Subculture Universes: The catalog is organized into two distinct stylistic pillars: SYSTEM (dark, utilitarian, tactical, and dystopian gear) and ASCENSION (experimental, sculptural, and avant-garde futuristic silhouettes).
  • Complete Outfit Architecture: Instead of merely listing standalone cargo pants or jackets, the platform maps out 25+ curated complete looks across 12+ distinct aesthetics, such as warcore, ninja techwear, and gothic streetwear.
  • ATLAS Coach: An interactive discovery system designed to guide users toward personalized gear recommendations based on individual style preferences, silhouette balance, and functional goals.
  • Worldwide Distribution: Integrated logistics delivering specialized apparel, utility bags, modular harnesses, and technical outerwear internationally.

How I built it

  • Platform Architecture: Developed a responsive, high-performance web storefront optimized for fluid browsing, rich media assets, and lightning-fast product filtering across dozens of aesthetic categories.
  • Style Engine & Taxonomy: Structured a multi-layered relational product catalog grouping items by micro-aesthetics (warcore, cyber-rave, darkwear) to enable seamless full-look discovery.
  • Recommendation Logic: Implemented rule-based decision trees for the ATLAS Coach feature to analyze style intent and match users with cohesive outfit bundles.
  • Global Logistics Integration: Integrated international shipping APIs, multi-currency processing, and secure automated checkout workflows to handle worldwide order fulfillment.

Challenges I ran into

  • Taxonomy Complexity: Alternative fashion overlaps heavily across genres. Designing an intuitive navigational structure that cleanly differentiates military tactical gear from avant-garde futuristic wear required multiple iterations of our category model.
  • Performance with Media-Heavy Pages: Showcasing complex technical garments requires high-resolution lookbooks and detailed product photography. Balancing high-fidelity imagery with fast load times demanded aggressive asset optimization and intelligent lazy loading.
  • Personalized Style Matching: Building the logic behind the ATLAS Coach required translating subjective style preferences into concrete, rule-based product recommendations that reliably feel natural and well-curated.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  • Scaled the product architecture to support 12+ aesthetic verticals and hundreds of functional products without losing brand identity.
  • Successfully built out 25+ complete curated looks that make complex styling accessible to newcomers in the techwear space.
  • Gained media visibility across 300+ digital publications and established an international fulfillment pipeline serving a global customer base.

What I learned

  • Context Drives Conversion: In specialized niches, shoppers do not just buy items; they buy complete aesthetic identities. Presenting garments within an interconnected world significantly improves engagement compared to traditional product grids.
  • Subculture Accuracy Matters: Niche communities have high standards for authenticity. Fabric functionality, hardware durability, and stylistic consistency require obsessive attention to detail in catalog curation.

What's next for ATLAS 1

  • Advanced Recommendation Algorithms: Upgrading the ATLAS Coach with machine-learning-driven discovery models for deeper personalization based on browsing behavior and sizing profiles.
  • Community Lookbooks: Enabling users to submit their own outfit builds directly to the platform, turning ATLAS 1 into an interactive hub for futuristic street culture.
  • Exclusive Modular Drops: Expanding technical partnerships to design modular, hardware-integrated garments and limited-edition releases unique to the ATLAS 1 ecosystem.
