Inspiration
Pacific rim (if you couldn't tell), the good TF2, Armored Core, various other mech sections of video games and films.
What it does
It. Just. Works.
This project uses the Roto-VR Explorer chair to simulate being in the chair of the cockpit of the mech. This game pits you as the pilot of a mech being attacked by foes whilst in an underwater arena. Use the controls in the cockpit to pilot the mech and fight back against these foul critters. The left panel is used for movement, the buttons allow you to strafe from left to right. The right panel is used for attacking, use the buttons to either shoot your chaingun or swipe at your foes with your hand blade.
Challenges, how we overcame them and what we learned.
Utilising, and in a notable case tweaking the Roto chair SDK to allow better connection to the chair, having to utilise and adapt a novel technology, which has no support online and limited documentation Learning how to create a 3D game, as well as a VR game, for the first time using Unity. Learning how to use Blender to create 3D assets, as well as how to export and implement them in Unity.
What's next for Atlantic Edge
Hopefully an expansion of the main gameplay loop. The experience of piloting the mech in VR is interesting as is and so would benefit from a greater sense of replayability.
