Inspiration

Atlanta's streets absorb heat, flood neighborhoods, and cut residents off from each other. Memorial Drive has 6% tree canopy and no protected bike infrastructure. We wanted to show what's possible if a single block got the interventions it deserves.

What it does

BlockBloom lets anyone redesign a real Atlanta street — add trees, bike lanes, bus rapid transit, solar, green space — and see the real climate and economic impact update live. Every number is sourced from EPA, USDA, and NREL data.

How we built it

Single-page web app. HTML, CSS, vanilla JavaScript, SVG overlays drawn directly on a real street photo. No backend, no framework, works completely offline.

Challenges

Getting the SVG intervention graphics to align perfectly on the real street photo. Making the data feel real without overstating it.

Accomplishments

A live interactive street that transforms in real time. Sourced impact data judges can verify.

What's next

Scale to any street in any city. Resident submission portal. Integration with Atlanta's Climate Resilient ATL plan.
