Inspiration
A professional device to measure speed is very expensive and are really hard to use. However, our hack takes advantage of the rise of modern technology especially with smartwatches to measure the acceleration of movement on a smartwatch and specifically on the popular Pebble watch powered by Javascript.
What it does
Our hack integrates a built in accelerometer within the Pebble watch, an affordable and convenient alternative. It finds the velocity of movement while on the user’s wrist and is especially helpful within sports to quantify improvement and speed.
How we built it
We used Javascript, Pebble smartwatch, and Cloud Pebble.
Challenges we ran into
Calibration of the accelerometer.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to learn Javascript in a single day and access the onboard accelerometer.
What we learned
We learned the implementation of a program into a real life application relevant to Bronx Science students and athletes.
What's next for Athlete Accelerometer
Incorporate position vectors to determine the angle of swing.
