Athanni Finance

Inspiration

I wanted to build a DEX that is cheaper to use, does not depend on centralized exchanges to buy tokens and is user friendly while not making tradeoffs with open-source, decentralized, permissionless, censhorship-resistant values. That is a hefty goal to have but that is what I want to build.

What it does

Athanni Finance is a DEX built on Theta Network. It is also a bridge between Ethereum and Theta to make it possible to trade ERC20 assets at a very low cost.

How we built it

Athanni is being built around the ethos of bringing easier access of DeFi to the people who are Crypto-illiterate.

The DEX is built using a fork of Uniswap V2 and the bridge is built from scratch using tools such as OpenZeppelin. The UI is built with NextJS/React/EthersJS.

Challenges we ran into

The major challenge was and still is to build a bridge that is decentralized and permissionless. Right now there is little support of using an Oracle to validate and confirm transfer of assets between two chains (Ethereum and Theta). As such, for now, we have built a permissioned bridge which provides enough data to anybody to confirm if the bridge is working in true faith. Still, this is not something that we aim to release on Mainnet. We are finding ways and building a true permissionless bridge that can transfer assets securely without us gatekeeping.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of building the tools of finance that would have been nearly impossible to build without any major financial backing in the Web2 world. Blockchain truly makes building DeFi accessible regardless of your class, region, background, etc.

What we learned

I learned how DEXes work, how bridges work, XYK market maker algorithm, arbitraging, oracles and other stuff.

What's next for Athanni Finance

The next goals for Athanni Finance is to:

Build a team of like minded motivated people to build the DEX, Bridges and other financial tools.
Build a permissionless bridge and transfer a slew of assets most desired by people to Theta Network.
