Dress to Impress(Roblox Game)
What it does
Atelier turns a photo of a clothing sketch into a clean, editable technical flat. Gemini identifies details like sleeves, necklines, collars, and skirt shapes, and our Builder converts them into a layered SVG. Users can edit individual parts, save and reuse components, choose from 80 templates, preview designs on adjustable figures, and export their work as SVG or PNG.
How we built it
We used Gemini 3.8 Flash to analyze sketches and generate structured design specifications. Our TypeScript Builder uses those specifications to draw symmetrical SVGs. The backend uses Python and FastAPI for validation and storage, while the frontend is built with React and Vite. Our main idea was simple: Gemini figures out what the garment is, and our code figures out how to draw it.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge was getting Gemini to follow our schema, so we simplified its output and added strict validation afterward. Speed was another issue. Initially, some requests took 55 seconds. By optimizing the prompt and image size, we brought that down to around 4–25 seconds. Gemini also struggled with certain garment details, like confusing gathered skirts with flared ones. We improved this by testing different prompts and fixing specific mistakes.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a working pipeline that converts sketches and even runway photos into editable technical flats. We also created an evaluation system to measure Gemini's accuracy. After testing 10 prompt versions, we achieved 53/53 correct fields on our development sketches. Most importantly, our designs remain fully editable instead of becoming static AI-generated images.
What we learned
We learned that AI works best when it's given the right job. Gemini handles understanding sketches, while our code handles precise drawing. We also learned that measuring prompt accuracy is much more useful than simply looking at results. Having a shared design specification helped our team of four work on different parts of the project simultaneously.
What's next for Atelier
We want to take Atelier beyond fashion design and explore areas like interior design, painting, and other forms of creative sketching. Our goal is to let users turn their rough ideas into clean, editable designs without losing their original creativity.
