Inspiration

Astrology in the digital age is often reduced to generalized, automated scripts that lack the profound depth of genuine Vedic traditions. We noticed that people seeking real guidance—whether for career turning points, relationship compatibility, or life transitions—were forced to choose between expensive human astrologers or rigid, unimpressive software. We were inspired to build AstroVachak to democratize access to authentic, hyper-personalized Vedic astrology. By combining the ancient mathematical precision of Kundli (birth charts) and Dasha systems with modern Large Language Models, we wanted to create an "AI Astrologer" that doesn't just calculate planetary positions, but actually interprets them with the empathy, wisdom, and nuance of a seasoned human guide.

What it does

AstroVachak is a premium AI-powered Vedic astrology copilot available on both Web and Mobile. It offers a comprehensive suite of cosmic intelligence:

Daily & Monthly Cosmic Weather: Generates highly personalized, context-aware daily and monthly horoscopes that change dynamically based on current planetary transits. Kundli (Birth Chart) Generation: Calculates precise planetary placements, houses, and ascendants based on exact birth coordinates. Dasha & Transit Analysis: Interprets major life periods (Mahadashas) and real-time transits to predict long-term life events. Compatibility (Kundli Matching): Evaluates relationship synergy through traditional Vedic matching principles. AI Chat Copilot: Users can interact with our AI astrologer to ask specific questions (e.g., "When will my career improve?") and receive deeply insightful answers grounded in their unique astrological data.

How we built it

We built AstroVachak as a robust, full-stack application.

Frontend & Mobile: The web platform is built with React (Vite) featuring a stunning, premium dark-mode UI with glassmorphism and smooth animations. The mobile app is built using React Native and Expo. Backend & Database: We utilized Node.js with Express, alongside PostgreSQL for our database, managed safely through Prisma ORM. AI & RAG Pipeline: We integrated LangChain, ChromaDB, and Anthropic's Claude (Haiku) models. We implemented a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture to feed complex Kundli, Dasha, and Transit contexts directly into the LLM, enabling the AI to reason over vast amounts of astrological data before responding. Infrastructure: We deployed the infrastructure using Dokploy to a VPS, and utilize PostHog for product analytics and user tracking.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest hurdles was balancing AI determinism with creative variance. LLMs inherently want to follow patterns, which meant our Daily Horoscope generation was initially producing repetitive predictions day after day. We had to engineer advanced prompting techniques—including injecting random seeds and strictly constraining the model to focus on shifting moon phases and planetary transits—to ensure daily uniqueness. Additionally, translating complex mathematical astronomical data (like exact degrees of planetary bodies) into a natural, conversational JSON structure that the LLM could accurately interpret without hallucinating required significant prompt engineering and context window management.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are incredibly proud of the premium user experience and the high accuracy of the AI interpretations. Unlike most generic horoscope apps, AstroVachak dynamically combines multiple layers of Vedic calculations (Dashas + Transits + Kundli) into a single, cohesive narrative. We're also proud of successfully implementing a seamless cross-platform experience, getting both a high-performance web app and a React Native mobile app operational with shared backend infrastructure.

What we learned

Building AstroVachak taught us a tremendous amount about the intersection of ancient mathematics and modern AI. We learned how to effectively manage and inject dense contextual data (RAG) into LLM prompts without overwhelming the model's reasoning capabilities. We also gained valuable experience managing background jobs, cron tasks, and edge-case error handling in a production Node.js/Prisma environment.

What's next for AstroVachak

We are currently focusing on monetization and expanding our mobile presence! Our immediate next step is integrating RevenueCat and Google Play Billing into our React Native app to allow users to purchase AI Chat Credits and unlock our premium "10-Year Destiny Path" reports via In-App Purchases (IAP). Beyond that, we plan to implement localized languages (like Hindi, Japanese, Urdu) to make these profound astrological insights accessible to a broader global audience.
