Inspiration
Star registries have been around a while with the most famous being the International Star Registry. It is often marketed for gifts - and commonly referred to as one of the lamest gifts of all time.
That might be due to the fact that, when you claim and name a star, there is no proof that you own it other than a piece of paper.
The difference with StarLedger is that not only do you get to name the star, you own the virtual representation of it as a digital asset. Meaning, no one else can buy it. In addition, you can point to your star on our map and show your friends and family that you indeed own that star. The limited number of stars brings a unique experience to star lovers as the value for each star will appreciate over time. Users can also purchase entire constellations and eventually be able to change a star’s color, lumen, twinkle and other attributes. This makes StarLedger more than a gift or a novelty — it can be very valuable investment.
What it does
StarLedger is a limited NFT collection of 5,000 unique, collectible stars on the Metis network.
Every star represents a star in our own galaxy. Users can use crypto to buy and sell stars. Each star is minted as a NFT along with an official StarLedger certificate as proof of ownership.
How it works
To use StarLedger, go to starledger.org and click “Launch App”.
You’ll be presented with a welcome message. Click “Ok” to close the dialog.
Click “Connect Wallet” to connect your MetaMask wallet. Note: more wallets including Polis will be supported soon.
Look through the star field, find your favorite star and click on it. If it’s available to buy, you will see a “Buy” button.
After you purchase your star, you are presented with a purchase certificate that can be added to your wallet’s asset collection.
Purchasing your star takes it off the market so no one else can buy the same star.

What's next for StarLedger
StarLedger was born out of the Metis Hackathon and is only a few days old. There is much more to do:
Polis integration.Done!3D View. The current 2D view is a flattened view of what our star field looks like. Adding a 3D view will make the mapping of the stars more accurate.Done!- VR mode. Put on your VR headset and look around the StarLedger metaverse in a completely immersive experience like no other.
- AR mode. Using your phone, you’ll be able to look up at the night sky and see stars you own in real life, connecting the StarLedger metaverse with our own universe.
- Star auctioning. Users can currently buy and sell at a fixed price but we plan to add an auction component as well.
- Give a star an alias
- Personalize stars with different colors, lumens and animations
- Buy constellations, galaxies and other deep space objects
